Altoona Family Physicians Inpatient Medicine Service - 1 Block
- Team combined of intern and senior residents
- Supervise the interns and second-year resident
- Daily teaching and interdisciplinary rounds
- Run codes and rapid responses
- Perform admissions
Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care - 1 Block
- Chose to complete shifts in the Emergency Department or in the local Urgent care
ENT/Ophthalmology/Urology- 1 Block
- Work with local specialists in each of these areas in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Transitional Care Medicine and Health Quality Literacy - 1 Block
- Work with health care registries and measures to improve health care quality
- Assist the night float team with their responsibilities in the evenings
- See hospital follow up patients in the office
Night Float - 0.5 Blocks
- Supervise the intern and second-year resident on all services
- Perform admissions
- Run codes and rapid responses
Pediatrics - 1 Block
- One senior resident and one to two interns
- Typically coordinate care for 10 to 14 pediatric patients on service
- Admit all pediatric patients
- See pediatric patients in outpatient clinics and attend pediatric cardiology clinic
- Daily Teaching from local pediatricians
- Perform newborn exams
- Supervise intern
- Perform circumcisions
- Option to rotate at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
Cardiology and Pulmonology - 1 Block
- Two weeks of each
- Work with local cardiologists and pulmonologists in the inpatient and outpatient settings
Rural - 1 Block
- Spend time seeing patients at our rural outpatient office in Williamsburg
Elective - 4 Blocks
- Can choose from a wide variety of electives offered at UPMC Altoona as well as throughout the entire UPMC system
- Can arrange international electives
Family Medicine Flex - 0.5 Blocks
- Take leadership of the team for 1 week on the inpatient and 1 week on the night float rotations orienting the new interns and providing mentorship during the first block of the year
