![]() I grew up in a small town (a village by American standards, really) in the Indian state of Punjab. Childhood was a mix of bicycle rides to school, having all sorts of animals in the house (including a buffalo) and being awed by the local physician who came in once a week to treat the sick and the miserable in town. As the children grew up, our family became “demographically evolved” and moved from small town to small city to big city. Medical school came after a bit of a struggle with my parents who preferred a properly “settled” (read married) daughter. After managing to beg, cajole, reason and finally steamroll my way to medical school, I completely fell for the job of a general physician. I love all aspects of medicine, and the decision to go into family medicine was a relatively easy one. The decision to come to America seemed to be a natural culmination of my desire to aim for the best of what is available in terms of lifestyle, professional satisfaction and quality of patient care. The friendliness of faculty and staff, and promise of a well rounded education in family medicine attracted me to Altoona. Whatever time I have left over from my intern duties (if there is such a thing) will go to travel, enjoying quality movies, pampering my husband and doting on my now two year old son. Update: After internship, Yogita will be joining her husband in the midwest to complete the rest of her residency. We wish her the best. |
