Stacey Raybuck
Pre-residency BiographyHi, my name is Stacey Ryan. I was born and raised in Altoona, PA, yet spent my early years in beautiful Spruce Creek, PA, best known as Jimmy Carter’s summer retreat. With images of cows grazing behind my home, I was whisked away to the “big city” of Altoona where I decided with finality at the early age of seven to become a cowgirl. After all, I was a girl and I liked cows. During high school I played tennis and softball and worked hard at pestering my two younger brothers. Having great success analyzing the oddities of my relatives and realizing that becoming a cowgirl wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, I decided to attend college at Penn State to study psychology. I earned a degree in Rehabilitation Education, which enabled me to become employed as a case manager for children with disabilities. After four years of working in social services, I decided that I could do more to help people by becoming a physician. So, I took a chance and enrolled in Penn State’s Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical program in order to obtain the prerequisites I needed to apply to medical school. Despite physics, I successfully completed the post-bacc program then worked at the Center for Locomotion Studies where I assisted with research ranging from diabetic footwear and ulcerations to falls in the elderly. While I waited eagerly for acceptance into medical school, I enjoyed Pennsylvania’s rolling Appalachians by becoming involved with Penn State’s Outdoor Club. We hiked picturesque mountains, canoed branches of the Susquehanna river, rock climbed to dizzying heights, and lived to tell about it. My outdoor adventures came to a halt upon my acceptance to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Despite missing the mountains and outdoors, I settled in to medical school and enjoyed the abundant “wildlife” that lives in Philadelphia. During medical school, I decided to challenge myself further by becoming ill with a couple of the numerous maladies that we studied. I finished my classes, survived two surgeries, recovered from cancer, and graduated on time.
Now I find myself returning to my hometown hoping to enjoy all the
positive experiences the area has to offer.
I look forward to learning how to care for folks through the residency
program and hope to have an incredible internship year.
