Pulmonary MedicineOverviewThe pulmonary/critical care medicine rotation is a required inpatient consultative service. All aspects of pulmonary disease and critical care medicine are seen. Emphasis is placed on pulmonary function testing, management of the mechanical ventilator and chest x-ray interpretation. The resident is exposed to a number of critical care and pulmonary procedures, including fiberoptic bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, pleural biopsy, transthoracic lung biopsy and pulmonary artery catheterization. The clinical experience is augmented by didactic lecture occurring periodically over the year, family practice rounds on pulmonary topics, required reading during the pulmonary rotation and a current annotated bibliography on a number of important pulmonary and critical care topics.
