Nathan Derstine, DO

Biography
I grew up in Souderton Pa, a suburb of
Philadelphia and then moved to the
beautiful Shenandoah Valley to attend college at Eastern Mennonite University.
Toward the end of high school and college I had the opportunity to spend
time overseas in various settings (England, Western and Eastern Europe, Sicily,
and the Middle East). It was in my
travels that my desire to do medicine was born along with my calling to practice
medical missions.
After college I spent one year working for
Merck pharmaceuticals, which just gave more credence to my desire to be in
medicine, just this time as a doctor. I started PCOM the next fall and spent
four years a little closer to home. In
my second year at PCOM I met my wonderful wife Kim at a Christian Medical and
Dental Society retreat and we were married in December of 2001.
My final few months of medical school were
spent doing rotations from Maine to Africa.
My wife and I are excited about coming to Altoona, which just happens to
be mid-way between my home in Souderton, Pa and my brother and his family who
live in Charlestown WV. When my residency is complete, my wife (who is a nurse
practitioner) and I plan to work in a rural/semi rural environment and split
doing missionary medicine with a practice here in the states. Other
interests include sports (all of them) but especially soccer, classic
literature, and obviously...travel.

Current location
Dr. Derstine is in private
