Class of 2011

Hello my name is Madie Hartman.  I am a city gal from Philadelphia and a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  My life’s passions include being a wife to a great guy and a mommy to two wonderful children.  They are a daily inspiration to me.  I also love music and play piano and string bass.

You may wonder what caused me to leave the land of cheese steaks and soft pretzels and travel to Altoona.  I love family practice and am interested in incorporating obstetrics into my future practice.  In my opinion it is one of the best specialties medicine has to offer.  It has everything from patient interaction to the widely varied clinical presentations.

When searching for a residency I really wanted a program that would offer the best training in family medicine.  Altoona proved to be that program for me.  The family medicine residency is uncontested so you are not just one of the doctors you are “the doctor”.  Also it provides a great deal of opportunity to train in ob.  Several attendings practice obstetrics and love to teach.  There is also a great deal of training in women’s health issues as well.

I’m grateful for the opportunity ahead of me not just for myself for my family as well.  This area has great schools and parks for the children and my husband is a doctorate student at IUP.  I invite you not to simply take my word for it but to come out and explore our program and area for yourself.
