John Baker

I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where I spent my youth until college. I attended Western Carolina University in the mountains and there I majored in Emergency Medical Care. At the time of my matriculation, This program was the only 4 year paramedic program in the country. I graduated with a BS in emergency medical care in 1986 and went back to my hometown to become a paramedic. I flourished in that environment but during my tenure, had a desire to go to medical school. It seemed I didn't have the time to pursue this avenue. During my tenure, I was involved in teaching ACLS, BCLS, PALS, as well as various paramedic courses. Shortly after I got married, I suffered a knee injury. With this down time, we decided that the time was right to pursue medical school. We relocated to eastern North Carolina where I took post baccalaureate courses. My persistence finally paid off when I was accepted into West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I have always loved western Pennsylvania and have visited it many times. I was very happy when the opportunity to come to Altoona presented. I am looking forward to my stay.
