Jennifer B. Snavely, DO

Class of 2009

Hi, my name is Jenn Snavely and I was born in Philadelphia and raised in Delaware. I grew up thinking I would be an actress on broadway or an artist but somewhere during college I decided on a career in medicine. I graduated cum laude from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in Psychology in 2000. I attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 2006. I did a traditional rotating internship in Philadelphia because after graduation I was not 100% sure what I wanted to do. I was always interested in surgery because I love doing procedures and working with my hands but I did not think a surgical residency was right for me. I realized that I could do many office procedures as a family doc as well as doing obsterics- (My great grandfather was a Family Doc in Delaware and he actually delivered my father which I always thought was really cool).

I chose Altoona because the people are incredible and I just had a great feeling about the place. Everyone in the residency as well as the hospital staff are so friendly and willing to help. We also have the opportunity to do and see a lot since we are the only residents at the hospital. It is also a great place to live if you love the outdoors. I love going boating on the lake and snowboarding and this is a great area for both of those things. My significant other is also a family medicine resident and the program is very couple-friendly. They always take your personal life and your loved ones into consideration. The 2nd and 3rd year residents are a really tight group and they made us (the interns) feel welcomed and part of the group immediately. We do tons of things together and there is usually a resident outing planned every few weeks or wild Bill Olstein throws one of his famous get-togethers. The best thing about the program is that we are able to have a lot of fun and receive excellent training.
