Fiona J. McLellan, MD
Year 2000 Graduate
Clinical Faculty

Biography
Dr McLellan was born in a small town in the
north of England. From an early age she decided that she wanted to play the
viola and be a doctor. In pursuit of these goals she met many interesting
people and was able to travel extensively around Europe, New Zealand and through
Asia. She completed her medical degree at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School,
University of London in 1995. During medical school she continued to play viola
actively in several orchestras, as well as risking her fingers as goalie for the
school ladies’ football team. She conducted the band at a 50s Dinner Dance to
raise money for charity and played in several Gilbert and Sullivan performances
put on by the medical school Opera Society.
During medical school she also found time to meet her husband Mark who was then
studying Physics. He subsequently completed his PhD in Biophysics at St
Mary’s.
Dr McLellan spent a year as an intern in the
London area before relocating to Central Pennsylvania because her husband had
taken a Post-Doctorate research position at Penn State University. After
completing appropriate licensing requirements Dr McLellan started her
residency in Family Medicine here at Altoona Family Physicians in 1997. She
completed her residency in 2000 and joined the program as a Clinical Faculty
member based at the Williamsburg office. She is now the Assistant Director of
the residency program and Medical Director of Williamsburg Family Practice.
Dr McLellan and her husband now have three
children, two girls and a boy, to keep them busy. Dr McLellan still
plays viola in the Nittany Valley Symphony in nearby State College and the girls
are now taking music lessons with a goal of forming a family ensemble in
future. The family prioritizes spending time together, and tries to make an
annual trip to the UK to visit their extended family. While here in the Altoona
area they enjoy spending time with the many friends they have made through their
adoptive family at Altoona Family Physicians.
