Hi, I am Daniel. My Chinese name is: 林艳丰, My American name is Daniel Yanfeng Lin. I received my M.D. in 1986 at Fujian Medical University, Fujian, China. I practiced Otolaryngology for 5 years in Fujian People’s Hospital before going to Finland to pursue a Ph.D. at Oulu University. I studied molecular medicine of organ development supervised by Dr. Seppo Vainio and graduated in 2001. After my Ph.D. program, I went to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Harvard Medical School, Boston, and completed postdoctoral fellowship training in Nephrology supervised by Dr. Vikas Sukhatme in 2004. I worked as a research fellow on stem cell project which was funded by NIH in Massachusetts General Hospital supervised by Dr. Amin Arnaout during 2004 to 2006. I completed my internship training in Internal Medicine at Charles Drew University Hospital, Los Angeles, California. It closed. I chose Altoona Family Residency program to continue my residency training mainly because of the strong recommendation of my medical school classmate, Dr. Juan Qiu, who graduated from this program in 2003. One of the important facts that the passing rate of board examination has been 100% in last 15 years was astonishing to me, which convinced me that this program has excellent training. I am interesting in reading literature and writing science articles. I published 30 articles in Chinese when I was in China. You can use my Chinese name to search the website if you know Chinese. I published 12 peer reviewed articles in English after I moved to western countries. One of articles was published in “Nature Genetics”, which was about the genetic controls of human organ development and the prospective of using stem cells as a potential material for the treatment of organ failure, like renal failure, and some diseases in bone marrow, like leukemia. My wife, Dr. Shaobing Zhang, is a research fellow and instructor in the field of Oncology and Stem cell in University of Southern California, Los Angeles. We have two wonderful children, John 14, and Jack 1. I will finish my residency on Feb.10, 2010. I will join Lexington Hospitalist Team in Altoona Regional Health System because I like this area so much, such as friendly people and good environment. My family will move to central PA as well. I would like to say "It has been an excellent experience at AFP”. I feel the program is very well ‘constructed” and has long history of excellent training. It is like a “cradle” you can rely on for your growth and maturing in medical practice. Every people is supportive, the teaching faculties are very much dedicated to teaching.
