Biography

Amy was born in Central Pennsylvania. She grew up in a small community close to Raystown Lake in a house that her parents (Bernard & Connie Swindell) built themselves. Amy has one older sister, Tracy, who is also in the medical profession as a BSN. Amy frequently reminds her that someday she could be her boss!

She went to Huntingdon High School and was involved in many activities including softball, concert band, and marching band. It was through concert band that she met her high school sweetheart and eventual husband, Tim. It was love a first sight over a bar of a John Philip Sousa March, "Stars and Stripes Forever". (He saw stars before she did.)

From high school, Amy traveled two blocks to attend college at a small liberal arts school. This college is world famous as she is sure you will recognize the name - Juniata College. Here she pursued her BS in Pre-Medicine/Biology (while Tim continued to pursue her from Penn State). Prior to graduation, Amy finally gave in and agreed to marry Tim (at least he said it was a real diamond). Despite the distractions, Amy graduated from Juniata College in 1995 with honors (much relief from her father).

Finally, Amy broke the ties and moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, to attend Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her first year, she learned the meaning of responsibility by being a nanny to two energetic girls while attending medical school. It was enough responsibility to convince her that children of her own were not part of the plan anytime soon.

During the next two years, Amy spent her time bouncing from rotation to rotation. It was then that she did a rotation at Allegheny Family Physicians and fell in love with the program. Not the same love that she felt for her husband but she was definitely fond of the program.

In the summer of 1999, Amy graduated from LECOM and excitedly returned to Central Pennsylvania where she and her husband bought a house (a fixer upper) and added a new member to their family - a puppy by the name of Smokey. Amy began her internship year at AFP while her husband and Bob Villa became best buds!

In September of 2001 Amy & Tim began a new experience of parenthood. Although the experience has been overwhelming at times, Amy has enjoyed being a mother to the fullest.  Mikayla was born 9/2/01 (no not Labor Day) at a healthy 7 lbs 7 oz and is growing with leaps and bounds.

As the time draws near to end residency, Amy is looking forward to starting a brand new practice in her hometown of Huntingdon. Amy is a glutton for punishment - mother, business woman, and physician.
