Juan Qiu, MD, PhDThird Year Resident
BiographyJan, a native of China, received her M.D. in 1986 and Master of Medicine (thesis area: Immunity to Candidas Infection) in 1989 at Fujian Medical College, China. She practiced briefly as an internist before she came with her husband to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. at Texas A&M University, where she studied molecular genetics of circadian rhythms in Drosophila. After her Ph.D. program, she went to Brandeis University in Boston to conduct research on molecular genetics of neuronal development in Drosophila as a postdoctoral fellow. In 1998, she moved to Wisconsin with her family as her husband took a faculty position at The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point where she prepared for the USMLE and ECFMG exams at home. She was a first year resident at Fox Valley Family Practice Program. Since her husband was offered a faculty position at Penn State University at State College, she decided to transfer programs and was fortunate to join Altoona Family Physicians Program. Jan's husband Dr. Henry Lin, is an Assistant Professor in Agronomy Department at Penn State University. They have two wonderful children, Alice 3, and Jimmie, 1. After hours interestBesides trying to spend more time with their family, Jan and her husband enjoy playing ping-pong (table tennis) and listening to music.
Jan finished her residency on December 31, 2003. She has joined Geisinger Medical Group - Lock Haven and her family has moved to State College, PA. Jan says "It was a wonderful experience at AFP. I will miss everyone. I would encourage medical school graduates to choose AFP for family practice residency."
