CardiologyOverviewCardiology is a required month long rotation. It is a primarily inpatient, consultative service. Care of the patient in the coronary care unit is emphasized. The resident is involved in the diagnosis and care of all aspects of coronary artery disease, brady- and tachyarrhythmias, and the management of both systolic and diastolic heart failure. ECG interpretation is emphasized. There is opportunity for the residents to observe a number of cardiologic diagnostic procedures, including echocardiograms, graded exercise stress tests, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac catheterizations and angioplasty. The appropriate use of the pulmonary artery catheter, and interpretation of its data is emphasized. Scheduled didactic lectures and weekly family practice rounds augment the clinical experience.
