Amanda Walls, DO Class of 2009 Hey, my name is Amanda Heather Walls. I am originally from Princeton, West Virginia which is about as far south as you can go and still be in WV. I enjoyed living there, although, lately I’ve realized there really wasn’t much to do there at all. From the time I can remember, I have said “I want to become a doctor.” I attended Princeton Senior High School and graduated in 1999. I then went straight into college at Concord College, now Concord University, in Athens, WV, where I majored in Biology and minored in Psychology. After three years in the Honor’s program, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology in 2002. While attending college, I worked with the Classic Upward Bound and Math & Science Upward Bound programs as a Tutor/Counselor during the summers. Also during my college years, I was active in Gamma Beta Phi honor & service fraternity (in which I served as Vice President), Alpha Chi, Student Support Services and many others. After graduating from Concord, I went directly into medical school at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. During my first year in medical school, I was awarded the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship for the remaining three years of medical school. I am currently a Captain in the Air Force Medical Corps and owe them three years of service eventually. During my years in medical school, I was involved in the Student Osteopathic Medical Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, and Delta Omega Service Fraternity. While in college at Concord, I joined a sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. We ran with the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity for Homecoming and that is how I met my wonderful husband, Michael. We got married October 5, 2002, in a tiny little town in WV called Bozoo. We have no children yet, but are planning to have a couple after I finish with a lot of my residency requirements. We do have a dog, Quillan, who is like a child to us. He’s Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix and almost four years old. My friends and husband will tell you that I have a wonderful personality and great sense of humor; however, I can be shy at first. My husband, dog, and I have greatly enjoyed our move to the area. Well, not the move, but getting to meet our neighbors and the friendliness of everyone around. So far, we really like the area and are looking forward to our stay here. I am looking forward to my internship year and am eager to see what the year brings.
